A.2.4 EXTENDED SQUITTER INITIALIZATION AND TIME-OUT<br />

Initialization <strong>and</strong> time-out functions <strong>for</strong> extended squitter broadcast shall be per<strong>for</strong>med by the transponder <strong>and</strong> are<br />

specified in Annex 10, Volume IV, §3.1.2.8.6.4 <strong>and</strong> §3.1.2.8.6.6.<br />

Note.— A description of these functions is presented in the following paragraphs to serve as reference material <strong>for</strong><br />

the section on the general <strong>for</strong>matter/manager (GFM) (see §A.2.5).<br />

A.2.4.1 INITIATION OF EXTENDED SQUITTER BROADCAST<br />

At power-up initialization, the transponder shall commence operation in a mode in which it broadcasts only acquisition<br />

squitters. The transponder shall initiate the broadcast of extended squitters <strong>for</strong> airborne position, surface position,<br />

airborne velocity <strong>and</strong> aircraft identification when data are inserted into transponder registers 0516, 0616, 0916 <strong>and</strong> 0816,<br />

respectively. This determination shall be made individually <strong>for</strong> each squitter type. The insertion of altitude or surveillance<br />

status data into transponder register 0516 by the transponder shall not satisfy the minimum requirement <strong>for</strong> broadcast of<br />

the airborne position squitter.<br />
