sensuality pr<strong>in</strong>t <strong>the</strong>ir uncomely l<strong>in</strong>eaments on <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

rotaries--describes him as <strong>the</strong> possessor <strong>of</strong> a great,<br />

overgrown, and bloated body. Both Gard<strong>in</strong>er and<br />

Bonner, <strong>the</strong> two most conspicuous agents <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

awful tragedies <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> time, had been supporters <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> royal supremacy, which formed a chief count <strong>in</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>dictment <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> men whom <strong>the</strong>y were now<br />

ruthlessly destroy<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir martyrologist. Over all <strong>England</strong>, from <strong>the</strong><br />

eastern counties to Wales on <strong>the</strong> west, and from <strong>the</strong><br />

midland shires to <strong>the</strong> shores <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> English<br />

Channel, blazed <strong>the</strong>se baleful fires. Both sexes, and<br />

all ages and conditions, <strong>the</strong> boy <strong>of</strong> eight and <strong>the</strong><br />

man <strong>of</strong> eighty, <strong>the</strong> halt and <strong>the</strong> bl<strong>in</strong>d, were dragged<br />
