Lobster house
Fresh seafood by the docks, sipping on cool drinks, taking in the harbor scene... it’s classic Cape May dining!
WHERE IS IT? You can’t miss The
Lobster House. Not unless you fly
into Cape May by helicopter (and
even then...) or you’re sitting in the
passenger seat of the car with a
blindfold on as you cross the bridge.
WHY SHOULD I GO? It would be
like visiting Paris and leaving the Eiffel
Tower off your itinerary. The Lobster
House is at the heart of the harbor,
the second-biggest fishing port on the
eastern seaboard. It has a commercial
fleet, a fish market and the busiest
restaurant in town.
There are many different dining
options. The main restaurant comprises
a number of picturesque rooms
overlooking the harbor, and serves
a varied menu that’s crammed with
the freshest seafood, but also offers
classics like prime rib, New York strip
steak and various chicken dishes.
Then there’s the unmissable Raw
Bar, by the docks, where you can sit
with a pitcher of beer, tucking into
lobster and crab.
The 146-foot Schooner American
is a wonderful place to enjoy an outdoor
cocktail and also has its own
food menu.
INSIDER TIP The Lobster House also
has takeout and a coffee shop that’s a
great breakfast spot!
