Explore the wetlands under a full moon, as the sun sets, or in daylight. Or go paddle boarding!
WHERE IS IT? At The Nature Center of Cape
May on Delaware Avenue.
WHY SHOULD I GO? Because it doesn’t
really matter what type of Cape May
experience you’re after — from a romantic
escape to an educational one, from a physical
workout activity to a couple of hours of family
fun — Aqua Trails covers the bases. Owned and
operated by local high school marine biology
teacher Jeff Martin (that’s him on the left) and
his wife Tracey, Aqua Trails is one of those
no-fail, put-it-on-the-to-do-list kind of places.
Think of the photo ops as you glide along
in your kayak, encountering all measure of
aquatic flora and fauna. The colors alone
are enough to provoke jealousy among your
Facebook friends and Instagram followers. And
you can pick your pleasure — tidal marsh tours,
where you’ll get up close and personal with the
wetlands and the exotic birds for which Cape
May is so renowned; sunset tours, where you
can get views of the spectacular sunsets from
a different perspective; and the wildly popular
full moon tours. There are even a couple of
road trips scheduled each year — check the
website for details. There are also two kayak
summer camps for kids ages 12-16.
Paddle-boarding is now a popular part of
the Aqua Trails itinerary, with a variety of tours,
lessons and rentals for all ages. Not only is it a
fun way to navigate the harbor, it’s a killer workout.
After all, those vacation Margarita calories
aren’t going to burn themselves off.
