ABOUT THE THEATER COMPANY<br />
East Lynne is celebrating its 41st<br />
season of presenting spectacular<br />
American classics and new works that<br />
reveal through comedy and drama,<br />
this country’s diversity, challenges,<br />
and triumphs. This award-winning<br />
Equity professional company is<br />
recognized for artistic excellence and<br />
cultural significance by The New York<br />
Times, The Wall Street Journal, The<br />
Philadelphia Inquirer and WHYY Public<br />
Television and Radio.<br />
In 2020, ELTC produced outdoor<br />
events and via Zoom and YouTube. In<br />
<strong>2021</strong>, ELTC is still offering virtual events<br />
while planning to resume live shows,<br />
outside in June through August, and<br />
hopefully moving inside in September,<br />
at <strong>Cape</strong> <strong>May</strong> Presbyterian Church, 500<br />

Vaudeville Variety<br />

<strong>May</strong> Borough Hall’s Back Yard, 732<br />
Broadway. It’s 1916, and Mae Savell<br />
Croy, portrayed by Susan Tischler,<br />
is traveling the country lecturing on<br />
her new book, Putnam’s Household<br />
Handbook. Croy did write the book<br />
that contains such suggestions as “if<br />
the baby wants to cry, let it do so,<br />
thereby exercising and strengthening<br />
its young lungs.” She is joined by two<br />
vaudevillians, played by Holly and Will<br />
Knapp, who add songs and skits.<br />
Dorothy Parker: A Certain Woman<br />
September 15 – October 16: Selections<br />
from Dorothy Parker’s work performed<br />
by Suzanne Dawson. A popular writer<br />
for The New Yorker, Parker (1893-1967)<br />
exchanged witticisms with fellow<br />
celebrities over lunch at the Algonquin<br />
Round Table. “I’d rather have a bottle in<br />
front of me than a frontal lobotomy” is<br />
one example of her bon mots.<br />
A Hundred Thousand Days of Light<br />
September 11: An evening of American<br />
classics spanning the American<br />
Revolution to Gian Carlo Menotti, sung<br />
by world-famous soprano Barbara<br />
Quintiliani, who’s performed under the<br />
batons of legendary conductors.<br />
Nosferatu<br />
October 23: Silent classic horror<br />
film with live organ accompaniment<br />
provided by Wayne Zimmerman.<br />
Poe by Candlelight<br />
October 23: Actors read favorite Poe<br />
stories in time for Halloween.<br />
Sherlock Holmes Adventure of<br />
the Blue Carbuncle<br />
Octobrt 29-30 and November 5-6:<br />
Performed radio-style, it’s based on Sir<br />
Arthur Conan Doyle’s story. Holmes and<br />
Watson must find out who stole a gem<br />
before an innocent man is convicted.<br />
Christmas with Harte and O. Henry<br />
November 27, 28, December 6, 10, 11,<br />
12: Gayle Stahlhuth adapted stories by<br />
Bret Harte and O. Henry, and performs<br />
them in her unique, storytelling fashion.<br />
Tales in the Backyard<br />
Thursdays at 4:00 from June – August:<br />
Based on ELTC’s long-standing Tales of<br />
the Victorians, this version was devised<br />
in 2020. Usually, the Tales take place<br />
at a variety of venues, but last year<br />
they took place in one backyard. ELTC<br />
actors used microphones to perform<br />
classic American stories, famous<br />
speeches and one-acts. Up to 30<br />
people are socially distanced, and the<br />
cost is $5.<br />
Ghosts of Christmas Past Trolley Rides<br />
November and December, ELTC<br />
provides the costumed storyteller<br />
performing on <strong>Cape</strong> <strong>May</strong> MAC trolleys.<br />
