NJ Audubon’s Cape May Bird Observatory
You’re in a world-class natural paradise, and this is the HQ... in idyllic Cape May Point
WHERE IS IT? On East Lake Drive, off
Lighthouse Avenue at Cape May Point — but
their events will take you into the outdoors
throughout the area.
WHY SHOULD I GO? You will find a great
range of binoculars and spotting scopes, unique
clothing, gift cards, books and more. The store
not only offers wonderful seasonal ideas for
wildlife and birdwatching gifts for you and your
loved ones, it also serves as the first stop to get
you on the road to enjoying the fabulous birdlife.
Pick up a copy of CMBO’s quarterly events
schedule and you can soon be exploring the
best of wildlife watching. Events run throughout
the year and range from easy-going, two-hour
strolls through the state park to two- or threeday
workshops — you choose the level!
Ever wondered what those birds are that
hang out on the beach? Why are the birds here?
And where do they go when they’re not? If you
have never tried a bird walk before, come on
one of the beginner sessions, where CMBO’s
fine cadre of volunteer leaders will offer all the
advice you need. If you are a first-timer, they
have loaner binoculars — bring the kids, too!
The Ryan De Witt Memorial Trail behind
CMBO’s Northwood Center is always busy with
birds thanks to wildlife-friendly landscaping,
while a bird blind provides for your viewing and
photographing pleasure.
INSIDER TIP Events run through the year
so, if you enjoy CMBO walks in the summer,
hurry back in fall as another spectacular hawk
