HIGHLIGHTS
WHERE IS IT? You can’t miss it...
located on the main gateway into
Wildwood, NJ.
WHY SHOULD I GO? MudHen, which
opened in 2018, is named after the
first passenger train in Wildwood. In
1883, the West Jersey Railroad system
was designed to carry passengers
from Cape May Court House to the
fishermen’s village of Anglesea. As a
result of the ocean’s ever-changing
tides, muddy water would often wash
over the tracks, causing the train to
derail and passengers to be stranded
for hours at a time. Locals soon
nicknamed this line the Mudhen.
The brewpub’s industrial
rustic vibe plays homage to the
establishment’s history. The
5,500-square-foot space has been
gutted and remodeled from a former
Harley-Davidson outlet. The brick
of the exterior is reclaimed from
Philadelphia industrial sites. The
wooden walls are reclaimed from old
wine barrels. The main dining room is
home to a 40-foot full-service bar with
a view of the production area, where
head brewer Tony Cuhna works his
magic with a 15-barrel brew system and
canning production line.
The upstairs loft offers a lounge for
tasting by the fireplace, balcony dining
overlooking the main dining area and
bar and another full-service bar tucked
into a quaint corner. This is a space
where you can enjoy high-quality beers
in a relaxed setting with names and
flavors inspired by Wildwood’s history.
Visit the garage that features
a large full-service concrete bar, a
preserved neon sign from the former
establishment and a glass garage door
that can be left open during warmer
months. Hang out on the outdoor
patio lined with pine trees, complete
with fire pits, outdoor games, covered
seating and a flat-screen TV. It’s also a
perfect venue for private events.
Wherever you choose to dine,
expect a delicious meal from a menu —
