The disinfectant mixture is made up in a five-litre bucket to the<br />

manufacturer’s recommendations. The crew must use a hard-bristle broom<br />

to scrub the inside of the IRB and then hose out thoroughly with clean<br />

water. IRB should be left upright to drain through auto-bailers to prevent<br />

degradation of equipment.<br />

4.4.2 Personal Flotation Devices (PFD):<br />

All PFDs must be soaked in a disinfectant solution made up to the<br />

manufacturer’s recommendations. After soaking, PFDs should be<br />

thoroughly rinsed out with clean water. PFDs should be checked for signs<br />

of damage, particularly around zip and buckle areas, and sent away for<br />

repair or replaced as required.<br />

4.4.3 Club House and First Aid Room Surfaces:<br />

Wipe down all affected surfaces with disinfectant following the<br />

manufacturer’s instructions.<br />

4.4.4 Personal Equipment - Wetsuits, fin belts, etc:<br />

Any contaminated personal equipment should be soaked in a disinfectant<br />

solution made up to the manufacturer’s recommendations. After being<br />

soaked, the equipment should be thoroughly rinsed out with clean water.<br />

Equipment should be checked for signs of damage, particularly around zip<br />

and buckle areas, and sent away for repair or replaced as required.<br />

4.5 SLSNZ Documentation and reporting requirements<br />

4.5.1 Inform SurfCom or the relevant Patrol Captain, Duty Officer, or staff<br />

member as soon as practicable.<br />

4.5.2 Note the exposure in the Incident Report Form.<br />

4.5.3 Fill out a Member Injury Report Form.<br />

4.5.4 Note any of the patient’s relevant medical history, e.g., known HEP C, HIV<br />

status, etc. if known. Ensure that multiple contact details of the patient are<br />

recorded for follow up purposes.<br />

4.6 Post-Decontamination<br />

4.6.1 Peer support and/or counselling services must be offered to all SLS<br />

personnel after a contamination exposure.<br />
