quoted in Delitzsch Parad. p. 294, we have a king helonging to <strong>the</strong><br />

time of Asurbanipal Am-mi-na-ad-bi (^li^sy<br />

VI. 7). O<strong>the</strong>r analogous compound names, such as Ammi-shaddai <strong>and</strong><br />

Ammi-el, may he found in <strong>the</strong> Hebrew Lexicon. <strong>The</strong> last case is in-<br />

teresting as we have <strong>the</strong> same elements inverted in Eliam (2 Sam.<br />

XI. 3). Dr. Neubauer has pointed out that we have <strong>the</strong> same name<br />

for deity in Jei'oboajn.. Prof. Sayce observes that <strong>the</strong> "mo<strong>the</strong>r of<br />

Rehoboam was an Ammonitess, <strong>and</strong> Eehoboam is formed exactly like<br />

Rehab-iah (1 Chron. XXIII. 17) just as Jekam-'am (1 Chron. XXIII.<br />

19) is formed like Jekam-iah (1 Chron. II. 41)."<br />

signifying shrine. Thus Nabonidus invoking <strong>the</strong> god Samas says<br />

V Rawl. 64 col. III. 13 ana I'babbara bit naramika ina iribika<br />

14. parakkaka darii ina rami'ka "when thou enterest Ibabbara<br />

thy beloved house, 14. when thou dwellest in thine eternal shrine."<br />

Parakku meant <strong>the</strong> inner shrine or adytum. Comp. Sayce, Hibbert<br />

Lectures p. 64.<br />
