THE FERROTYPE.<br />
Vignettes w<strong>it</strong>h gray <strong>and</strong> dark grounds may be<br />
produced by the same process, using a dark back-<br />
ground, of course, instead of the wh<strong>it</strong>e; <strong>and</strong> <strong>to</strong><br />
have the Vignette of the same shade as the<br />
ground, turn <strong>it</strong> from the light. By looking in<br />
the camera you can easily see when you have <strong>it</strong><br />
dark enough. Having arranged the Vignette<br />
<strong>to</strong> satisfaction, proceed as before.<br />
<strong>The</strong> best form of st<strong>and</strong> for the Vignette was<br />
invented by Mr. I. H. S<strong>to</strong>ddard, <strong>and</strong> is manu-<br />
factured <strong>and</strong> sold by E. & H. T. Anthony & Co.,<br />
<strong>and</strong> can be had through any s<strong>to</strong>ck dealer. It<br />
consists of a light wooden st<strong>and</strong>, w<strong>it</strong>h a hollow<br />
upright piece, similar <strong>to</strong> the st<strong>and</strong> of the head-<br />
rest. <strong>The</strong> frame upon which the card-board is<br />
fastened is pivoted w<strong>it</strong>hin another frame, which is<br />
set on ^ pis<strong>to</strong>n, moving in the hollow upright of<br />
the st<strong>and</strong>, so f<strong>it</strong>ted as <strong>to</strong> remain in any pos<strong>it</strong>ion<br />
w<strong>it</strong>hout dropping. <strong>The</strong>se st<strong>and</strong>s are not patented ;<br />
or if they are, the usual liberal<strong>it</strong>y of the Messrs.<br />
Anthony is s<strong>how</strong>n by the low price at which they<br />
are sold.<br />
THE MEDALLION FERROTYPE.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Medallion Ferrotype is another instance<br />
of the variety of beautiful effects possible <strong>to</strong> be<br />
produced in these pleasing pictures, the fin-<br />
ished <strong>and</strong> h<strong>and</strong>some effect produced is very at-<br />
tractive, <strong>and</strong> recommends the picture at once<br />
<strong>to</strong> the attention of the observer. When made<br />
w<strong>it</strong>h care, the Medallion Ferrotype is qu<strong>it</strong>e
