effect. A small table w<strong>it</strong>h wh<strong>it</strong>e marble <strong>to</strong>p is<br />
also conspicuously agreeable in pic<strong>to</strong>rial effect.<br />
Tli« table is often necessary <strong>to</strong> support articles<br />
required <strong>to</strong> be exhib<strong>it</strong>ed by the s<strong>it</strong>ter or s<strong>it</strong>ters,<br />
<strong>and</strong> will be frequently used <strong>to</strong> support articles<br />
required <strong>to</strong> be pho<strong>to</strong>graphed alone. <strong>The</strong> table<br />
cover may very frequently—if of su<strong>it</strong>able mate-<br />
rial <strong>and</strong> color—be used as drapery falling over<br />
the back of a chair or resting carelessly on the<br />
floor <strong>to</strong> hide the foot of the head rest. <strong>The</strong>re are<br />
many ways in which <strong>it</strong>s usefulness may be exem-<br />
plified.<br />
Ot<strong>to</strong>mans.—Ot<strong>to</strong>mans, or hassocks, are very<br />
useful as low seats in the compos<strong>it</strong>ion of groups,<br />
<strong>and</strong> should be liberally provided in every glass<br />
room. <strong>The</strong>y can be made very useful in making<br />
w<strong>it</strong>h them, fanciful seats for children, the table<br />
cover or other drapery being thrown over the<br />
ot<strong>to</strong>man.<br />
In galleries where there is not ample space for<br />
a furnishing room, a corner of the operating room<br />
is generally set apart for that purpose—this cor-<br />
ner should be provided w<strong>it</strong>h a table about breast<br />
high, w<strong>it</strong>h a large <strong>and</strong> small drawer. Upon the<br />
table should be placed a gas or naphtha s<strong>to</strong>ve; if in<br />
a c<strong>it</strong>y where gas is procurable, naphtha should not<br />
be used, but when gas is not <strong>to</strong> be had, naphtha<br />
is the least objectionable subst<strong>it</strong>ute. Upon the<br />
