should fit closely, and every other ingress for light
carefully guarded. That the dark room should be
the neatest and cleanest room in the building is
the usual theory, but it is only necessary that it
should be clean, free from dust, entirely so, and
with as few shelves as possible.
A small dark room is best for the Ferrotype
business, where every thing can be reached with
little motion, with space to turn conveniently.
This room should be furnished with a convenient
supply of water under immediate control. A
large trough-sink occupying the middle of one
side; on each hand shelves—that on the right for
the bath, the plate-holders and the developing
solutions ; those on the left for the collodion bot-
tles and the plates. For a Ferrotype Gallery
where pictures are made in sizes, from one on a
quarter plate, to as large as 8 by 10 inches, the
furniture and supplies of the dark room should be
