But if that nomination is not unanimuosly app<strong>ro</strong>ved, the<br />

new Grand Master shall be chosen immediately by ballot;<br />

every Master and Warden writing his man's name, and the<br />

last Grand Master writing his man's name, too; and the man<br />

whose name the last Grand Master shall first take out, casu­<br />

ally or by chance, shall be Grand Master of Masons for the<br />

year ensuing; and, if present, he shall be p<strong>ro</strong>claimed,<br />

saluted, and congratulated, as above hinted, and forthwith<br />

installed by the last Grand Master, according to usage.—<br />

ART. 2. The last Grand Master thus continued, or the<br />

new Grand Master thus installed, shall next nominate and<br />

appoint his Deputy Grand Master, either the last or a new<br />

one, who shall be also p<strong>ro</strong>claimed, saluted and congratulated<br />

in due form.—(See Grand Feast, Art. 10.)<br />

The new Grand Master shall also nominate his new Grand<br />

Wardens; and if unanimously app<strong>ro</strong>ved by the Grand Lodge<br />

they shall be forthwith p<strong>ro</strong>claimed, saluted, and congratulated<br />

in due form.<br />

But if not, they shall be chosen by ballot, in the same way<br />

as the Grand Master was chosen, and as Wardens of private<br />

Lodges are chosen when the members do not app<strong>ro</strong>ve of their<br />

Master's nomination.—( 0. R. Art. 35.)<br />

" By the 36th New Regulation, a Deputy is said to have<br />

been always needful when the Grand Master was nobly<br />

born: and that in our time, the Grand Master elect has not<br />

publicly signified beforehand the names of his intended<br />

Deputy and Wardens, nor till he is first installed in Solo­<br />

mon's Chair.<br />

" For then first he calls them forth by name, and appoints<br />

them to officiate instantly, as soon as they are installed.<br />

" But if the B<strong>ro</strong>ther whom the present Grand Master shall<br />

nominate for his successor, or whom the Grand Lodge shall<br />

choose by ballot, as above, is by sickness, or other necessary
