occasion, absent, he cannot be p<strong>ro</strong>claimed Grand Master,<br />

unless the old Grand Master, or some of the Masters and<br />

Wardens of Lodges, can vouch upon the honor of a B<strong>ro</strong>ther,<br />

that the said person so nominated or chosen, will readily accept<br />

of the off<st<strong>ro</strong>ng>ice</st<strong>ro</strong>ng>. In which case the old Grand Master shall act<br />

as P<strong>ro</strong>xy, and in his name shall nominate the Deputy and<br />

Wardens; and in his name shall receive the usual honors,<br />

homage, and Congratulations.—( 0. R. Art. 36.)<br />

The P<strong>ro</strong>xy must be either the last or a former Grand<br />

Master; as the Duke of Richmond was for Lord Paisly,<br />

page 200 ; or else a very reputable B<strong>ro</strong>ther ; as Lord South­<br />

well was for the Earl of Slrathmore, page 215.<br />

But the new Deputy and Grand Wardens are not allowed<br />

P<strong>ro</strong>xies when appointed.— (JV. R. Art. 36.)<br />

ART. 3. Then the Grand Master shall allow any B<strong>ro</strong>ther,<br />

a Fellow-Craft or Entered Prent<st<strong>ro</strong>ng>ice</st<strong>ro</strong>ng>, to speak, directing his<br />

discourse to his worship in the Chair; or to make any motion<br />

for the good of the Fraternity, which shall be either imme­<br />

diately considered, or else referred to the consideration of the<br />

Grand Lodge at their next Communication, stated or occa­<br />

sional.<br />

ART. 4. If the Grand Master die during his Mastership,<br />

cr by sickness, or by being beyond sea, or any other way,<br />

should be rendered incapable of discharging his off<st<strong>ro</strong>ng>ice</st<strong>ro</strong>ng>, the<br />

Deputy, or in his absence the Senior Grand Warden, or in<br />

is absence the Junior Grand Warden, or in his absence any<br />

iree present Masters of Lodges, shall assemble the Grand<br />

lodge immediately, in order to advise together upon that<br />

•verts to him : and if he refuse to act, then the next last, and<br />

present Deputy shall act as Principal till a new Grand Mas­<br />

ter is chosen; or if there be no Deputy, then the oldest<br />

Mason, the present Master of a Lodge.—( 0. R. Art. 21.)
