purpose, there should be a Receiver or Treasurer, publicly<br />

entrusted and known, the Committee were further of opinion,<br />

6th. That there be a Treasurer, to be nominated by the<br />

Grand Master, and app<strong>ro</strong>ved by the Grand Lodge. And,<br />

7th. That after the first nomination, all further Trea­<br />

surers be nominated upon every election of a Grand Master,<br />

and app<strong>ro</strong>ved as before.<br />

8th. That all recommendations of any B<strong>ro</strong>ther, as an<br />

object of casual charity of three pounds, or under, be made<br />

to the said Treasurer, who is to give not<st<strong>ro</strong>ng>ice</st<strong>ro</strong>ng> of the application<br />

forthwith, to the committee of five, for their directions in<br />

the matter.<br />

The committee then p<strong>ro</strong>ceeded to consider of a p<strong>ro</strong>posal<br />

made to them, viz : That the Treasurer should, f<strong>ro</strong>m time to<br />

time, give some collateral security for the due performance of<br />

his trust, which they found or judged to be a matter of some<br />

n<st<strong>ro</strong>ng>ice</st<strong>ro</strong>ng>ty in many respects, as well in regard that it is p<strong>ro</strong>bable<br />

none will ever be named to that employment of t<strong>ro</strong>uble and<br />

no p<strong>ro</strong>fit, but some B<strong>ro</strong>ther of distinction and sufficiency, and<br />

who therefore rather does than receives a favor in it; as<br />

that for the same reason such B<strong>ro</strong>ther would not care to ask<br />

f ny others, especially not of the Craft, to be collateral secu­<br />

rity for him; nor would any other, in all likelihood, in a<br />

^ oluntary undertaking of this nature, which induced the com-<br />

i nttee to think, that the requiring any such kind of security<br />

< -ould render it at least very difficult, if not impracticable, to<br />

{ et any Treasurer at all, more especially such a one in re-<br />

s pect of rank and estimation, as the committee believes<br />

< very B<strong>ro</strong>ther would be glad always to see in that trust; and<br />

\ 'hose acting in it would really p<strong>ro</strong>ve highly for the credit<br />

end serv<st<strong>ro</strong>ng>ice</st<strong>ro</strong>ng> of the design itself: for which, and many other<br />

r >asons of the same tendency, the committee concluded<br />

against requiring of the Treasurer any such collateral secu­<br />

rity, or that he should find any other persons to be bound<br />

with, or for him; yet how unnecessary they think it may
