OF THE <st<strong>ro</strong>ng>GRAND</st<strong>ro</strong>ng> SECRETARY.<br />

The Grand Secretary is nominated yearly by the Grand<br />

Master, and is a member of the Grand Lodge by his off<st<strong>ro</strong>ng>ice</st<strong>ro</strong>ng>.<br />

OF PROVINCIAL <st<strong>ro</strong>ng>GRAND</st<strong>ro</strong>ng> MASTERS.<br />

ART. 1. The off<st<strong>ro</strong>ng>ice</st<strong>ro</strong>ng> of P<strong>ro</strong>vincial Grand Master was<br />

found particularly necessary in the year 1726; when the ex­<br />

traordinary increase of the Craftsmen and their traveling into<br />

distant parts, and convening themselves in Lodges, required<br />

in immediate head, to whom they might apply in all cases,<br />

*vhere it was not possible to wait the decision or opinion of<br />

I he Grand Lodge.<br />

ART. 2. The appointment of this Grand off<st<strong>ro</strong>ng>ice</st<strong>ro</strong>ng>r is a pre­<br />

<strong>ro</strong>gative of the Grand Master, who grants his deputation to<br />

such B<strong>ro</strong>ther of eminence and ability in the craft, as he shall<br />

think p<strong>ro</strong>per; not for life, but during his good pleasure.<br />

ART. 3. The P<strong>ro</strong>vincial thus deputed, is invested with the<br />

power and honor of a Deputy Grand Master; and during<br />

the continuance of his P<strong>ro</strong>vincialship, is entitled to wear the<br />

clothing, to take rank as the Grand off<st<strong>ro</strong>ng>ice</st<strong>ro</strong>ng>rs, in all public<br />

assemblies, immediately after the Past Deputy Grand Mas­<br />

ters ; and to constitute Lodges within his own P<strong>ro</strong>vince.<br />

ART. 4. He is enjoined to correspond with the Grand<br />

lodge, and to transmit a circumstantial account of his p<strong>ro</strong>­<br />

ceedings, at least once in every year. At which times the<br />

F <strong>ro</strong>vincial is required to send a list of those Lodges he has<br />

i> nstituted, their contributions for the general fund of charity,<br />

a id the usual demand, as specified in his deputation, for<br />

r ery Lodge he has constituted by the Grand Master's<br />

u thority.<br />

OF THE COMMITTEE OF CHARITY.<br />

By the original order and constitution of nature, men ar e<br />

so made and framed, that they of necessity want one .'mothers<br />

assistance for their mutual support and preservation in the<br />
