15S APPENDIX A.<br />

the motion of Lovell, Grand Master, it was resolved, That<br />

all former Grand Masters and Deputies shall be members of<br />

the Committee of Charity.<br />

That the committee shall have a power to give five pounds<br />

as casual charity, to a poor B<strong>ro</strong>ther, but no more, till the<br />

Grand Lodge assemble.<br />

ART. 11. At the Committee of Charity, on June 18,<br />

1731, it was agreed. That no poor B<strong>ro</strong>ther that has been<br />

once assisted, shall, a second time, present a petition, without<br />

some new allegation well attested.<br />

ART. 12. At the Grand Lodge on June 8, 1732,<br />

Viscount Montagu being Grand Master, and in his absence,<br />

Deputy Grand Master Batson in the chair, having signified,<br />

That notwithstanding the general charity, some poor B<strong>ro</strong>thers<br />

had molested noblemen and others—being Masons—with<br />

private applications for charity, to the scandal of the craft;<br />

it w r<br />

as resolved, That any B<strong>ro</strong>ther who makes such private<br />

applications for the future, shall be forever debarred f<strong>ro</strong>m<br />

any relief f<strong>ro</strong>m the Committee of Charity, the Grand Lodge<br />

or any assemblies of MASONS.<br />

ART. 14. At the Committee of Charity, on July 5, 1732,<br />

it was agreed, That no B<strong>ro</strong>ther shall be relieved, unless his<br />

petition be attested by three B<strong>ro</strong>thers of the Lodge to which<br />

he does, or did once belong.<br />

ART. 15. At the Grand Lodge, on Nov. 21, 1732,<br />

Viscount Montagu being Grand Master, and in his absence<br />

Deputy Batson in the chair, it was resolved, That all former<br />

and present Grand off<st<strong>ro</strong>ng>ice</st<strong>ro</strong>ng>rs, viz: Grand Masters, Deputies,<br />

and Wardens, with twenty Masters, of contributing Lodges<br />

in a <strong>ro</strong>tation, according to the printed list, shall be members<br />

of the Committee of Charity. And,<br />

ART. 16. At the Grand Lodge, on Dec. 13,1733, upon<br />

the motion of Strathmore, Grand Master, in the chair, it
