But this being found inconvenient, a new regulation was<br />

made at the Assembly, on Dec. 27, 1720, and thereby<br />

agreed, That the new Grand Master should bv the present<br />

be p<strong>ro</strong>posed to the Grand Lodge at their Communication,<br />

some time before the day of their Annual Feast; and that<br />

if he was app<strong>ro</strong>ved then, or no objection made, he was to be<br />

forthwith saluted Grand Master elect, if there ; or if absent,<br />

his health was to be toasted as such; and that as such he<br />

was to march to the feast on the present Grand Master's left<br />

hand. *<br />

Thus on Lady-day, 1721, Payne Grand Master, p<strong>ro</strong>posed<br />

the Duke of Montagu; and all have since been so p<strong>ro</strong>posed,<br />

Now, before dinner, there is no election, but only a re­<br />

cognizing of the former app<strong>ro</strong>bation of the new Grand Mas­<br />

ter, which is soon done.<br />
