Upon such a vacancy, if no former Grand Master, nor<br />

former Deputy he found, the present Senior Grand Warden<br />

fills the Chair, or in his absence the Junior, till a new Grand<br />

Master is chosen: and if no present nor former Grand<br />

Wardens be found, then the oldest Free Mason, who is now<br />

Master of a Lodge.—(JY. R. Art. 21.)<br />

ART. 5. No Grand Master, Deputy Grand Master,<br />

Grand Warden, Treasurer, Secretary, or whoever acts for<br />

them or in their stead, p<strong>ro</strong> tempore, can, at the same time,<br />

act as the Master or Warden of a particular Lodge ; but as<br />

soon as any of them has discharged his public off<st<strong>ro</strong>ng>ice</st<strong>ro</strong>ng>, he<br />

returns to that post or station in his particular Lodge, f<strong>ro</strong>m<br />

which he was called to officiate.—( 0. R. Art. 17.)<br />

ART. 6. The Grand Master, with his Deputy, Grand<br />

Wardens and Secretary, shall, at least once, go <strong>ro</strong>und and<br />

visit all the Lodges about town, during his Mastership.—( 0.<br />

Or else he shall send his Grand Off<st<strong>ro</strong>ng>ice</st<strong>ro</strong>ng>rs to visit the Lodges.<br />

This old and laudable pract<st<strong>ro</strong>ng>ice</st<strong>ro</strong>ng> often renders a Deputy neces­<br />

sary : and when he visits them the Senior Grand Warden acts<br />

as Deputy, the Junior as the Senior, as above: or if both or<br />

any of them be absent, the Deputy, or he that presides for<br />

him, may appoint whom he pleases in their stead p<strong>ro</strong> tempore.<br />

For, when the Grand Masters are absent, the Senior or<br />

the Junior Grand Warden may preside as Deputy in visiting<br />

the Lodges, or in the constitution of a new Lodge; neither<br />

of which can be done without, at least, one of the present<br />

Grand Off<st<strong>ro</strong>ng>ice</st<strong>ro</strong>ng>rs.—(JV. R. Art. 20.)<br />

The Grand Master or Deputy has full authority and right,<br />

not only to be present, but also to preside in every Lodge,<br />

with the Master of the Lodge on his left hand; and to order<br />

his Grand Wardens to attend him, who are not to act as<br />

Wardens of particular Lodges, but in his presence, and at<br />

his command: For the Grand Master, while in a particular
