that captures the uncertainty over future behaviour so that migrati<strong>on</strong> can be<br />
represented appropriately in a safety case. In particular, more underst<strong>and</strong>ing is<br />
required of:<br />
• radi<strong>on</strong>uclide physico-chemical form (speciati<strong>on</strong>)<br />
• the spatial variability, temporal evoluti<strong>on</strong> <strong>and</strong> reactivity of mineral surfaces<br />
• upscaling molecular level models <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> estimate bulk chemical properties,<br />
both thermodynamic <strong>and</strong> kinetic, <strong>and</strong> transport over spatial scales from<br />
nanometres <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> hundreds of metres.<br />
