Building the XHTML<br />

Once I had an idea for the grid, I began to think about how to build it using Web Standards. First, I built a rough XHTML template<br />

with which to begin development of the CSS.<br />

An important consideration in any multicolumn layout is document order. At this stage of the process, you<br />

should try to put the look of the grid out of your mind and focus on the content flow in the document. Get<br />

the content in first; add the CSS later.<br />

So, I began to add the various elements stipulated in the wireframes. First, the utilities menu:<br />
