Low vision The CSS is constructed so that text is scalable in all browsers. The height of the navigational panes is never defined to be a static number; it is allowed to be flexible. The height of each navigational pane is determined when the script runs. This means that if a user opens and closes a pane, resizes the text, and then opens and closes the pane again, the script and the CSS automatically adjust to accommodate the sizing. We declared background and foreground colors in pairs, so that when a pane is opened and text is resized, it will still be readable, even if it falls out of the pane in which it is contained. Figure 10-5 shows a page with the text resized. Figure 10-5. 256 When using a screen magnifier, we noted that the close link didn’t appear within the field of view. This was no more difficult to use than any other site that doesn’t employ some type of zoom layout. Certainly, more experimentation could be done to allow for a fully left-aligned zoom layout. Voice recognition This particular solution appears to work well with voice-recognition software (Dragon NaturallySpeaking was used for testing), with one minor exception. A voice-recognition user has the ability to focus on the links in a page. They may say “link” and be presented with numbered choices, as shown in Figure 10-6. Figure 10-6.
