Battleships<br />
Purpose<br />
To develop shielding and turns to keep the ball from defenders.<br />
Organization<br />
Set out a 20-by-20-yard area. Play 6 vs. 6 inside the area. One ball per player.<br />
Game Objective<br />
Players dribble around the area attempting to keep possession <strong>of</strong> their ball while kicking the balls <strong>of</strong> opposition<br />
players out <strong>of</strong> the area. The first team to kick all <strong>of</strong> the opposition’s balls out <strong>of</strong> the area wins the game. Repeat.<br />
Progressions<br />
1. Use the weaker foot only.<br />
2. Every player must attempt a turn, fake or move on the coach’s command.<br />
Key Coaching Points<br />
1. Keep your head up at all times.<br />
2. Keep the ball close to your feet.<br />
3. Use turns to accelerate away from opponents.<br />
4. Shield the ball from the opponent by getting your body between them and the ball.<br />
