6 vs. 6 Loop Soccer
Purpose
To develop the goalkeeper’s ability to catch the ball or tip the ball in a game situation
Organization
Set out a 60-by-40-yard area with 5-yard end-zone channels at each endline. Play 6 vs. 6 inside the area. One ball
per practice.
Game Objective
Players advance the ball up field by throwing the ball to a teammate above head height. Players maintain possession
by catching the ball or tipping the ball over their heads to teammates. The ball changes possession when an opposition
player intercepts the ball or when a player drops the ball when attempting to catch it. Players may not move when
they are in possession of the ball. A goal is scored when a player catches the ball in the attacking end zone.
Progression
Introduce a goal and goalkeepers on each endline. A goal is scored when a player volleys the ball into the goal.
Key Coaching Points
1. Keep your eyes on the ball.
2. Call for the ball with a loud shout of “Keeper’s ball!”
3. Attack the ball and meet it at its highest point.
