Cluster Crossing<br />
Purpose<br />
To develop attacking free kicks from wide positions<br />
Organization<br />
Set out a 20-by-30-yard area with a goal (5 yards wide) and a goalkeeper on an endline. Station 3 attacking players<br />
in the middle <strong>of</strong> the area and 1 player on each sideline, each with a ball. Repeat in one other area for a total <strong>of</strong> 12<br />
players.<br />
Game Objective<br />
The sideline players take it in turns to strike direct free kicks into the area in front <strong>of</strong> goal. The 3 attacking players<br />
make runs into the area in front <strong>of</strong> goal in an attempt to score. Repeat and then rotate positions.<br />
Progressions<br />
1. Add a second player at the ball and alternate indirect free kicks.<br />
2. Add 2 defenders in front <strong>of</strong> goal.<br />
3. Change the location <strong>of</strong> the free kick.<br />
4. Introduce a defensive wall in front <strong>of</strong> the kick taker.<br />
Key Coaching Points<br />
1. Attack the front post, middle, and far post areas in front <strong>of</strong> goal with speed.<br />
2. Make diagonal and looped runs. Avoid straight runs into the area in front <strong>of</strong> goal.<br />
3. Strike the ball low and hard into the area in front <strong>of</strong> goal.<br />
4. Follow up rebounds from the goalkeeper.<br />
