Circle Crossing Unopposed
Purpose
To develop attacking crosses
Organization
Set out a 30-by-20-yard area with a goal (5 yards wide) and a goalkeeper on an endline. Use discs to create a near
post, middle of the goal, and far post circle 5 yards from the goal line. Station 3 attacking players on the far endline
from the goal and 1 player on each sideline, each with a ball. Repeat in one other area for a total of 12 players.
Game Objective
The sideline players take turns to dribble down the sideline and cross the ball into the area in front of goal. The 3
attacking players make runs into the area in front of goal, attempting to run into the three circles at the same time
the ball arrives. Repeat and then rotate positions.
Progressions
1. Add a defender in the area in front of goal.
2. Encourage attacking players to make angled runs to goal so that the near side player doesn’t always make a run
to the near post.
3. The sideline player on the far side of the area comes into the area behind the 3 attacking players to pick up any
crosses that are behind the 3 attacking players.
Key Coaching Points
1. Attack the front post, middle, and far post areas in front of goal with speed.
2. Make diagonal and looped runs. Avoid straight runs into the area in front of goal.
3. Call for the ball. Tell the wide player where you want the ball to be played.
