1 vs. 1 Loop Soccer<br />
Purpose<br />
To develop the goalkeeper’s ability to recover and tip the ball over the bar<br />
Organization<br />
Set out a 10-by-10-yard area with a goal (5 yards wide) and a goalkeeper on both endlines. Use discs to mark out<br />
the sideline in 1-yard increments. One ball per practice. Repeat in five other areas for a total <strong>of</strong> 12 players.<br />
Game Objective<br />
The receiving goalkeeper starts on his goal line. The server tosses the ball underarm, over the head <strong>of</strong> the goalkeeper.<br />
The receiving player jumps up and attempts to catch the ball. If the receiving goalkeeper is successful, he moves<br />
to the 1-yard line. The server tosses the ball underarm, over the head <strong>of</strong> the goalkeeper. The receiving player jumps<br />
up and attempts to catch the ball. If the receiving goalkeeper is successful, he moves to the 2-yard line, and so on. If<br />
he is unsuccessful and the ball goes in the goal, he goes back to the previous line.<br />
Progression<br />
Introduce an attacking player in the area in front <strong>of</strong> goal. The attacking player competes for the ball and attempts<br />
to head the ball into the goal.<br />
Key Coaching Points<br />
1. Start in your ready position<br />
2. Cross your front foot over your back foot when conceding ground.<br />
3. Keep your head steady and your eyes on the ball at all times.<br />
4. Jump up <strong>of</strong>f your back foot and reach up to catch the ball or tip the ball over the bar.<br />
