MLS Madness<br />
Purpose<br />
To improve reaction time and turning speed<br />
Organization<br />
Set out a 20-by-20-yard area. Organize 12 players into a line across the middle <strong>of</strong> the area, each with a ball. Name<br />
each side <strong>of</strong> the area after an MLS team.<br />
Game Objective<br />
Players start with 3 points each. On the coach’s command, players dribble to one <strong>of</strong> the four sides <strong>of</strong> the area. Players<br />
turn on the line and dribble back to their original starting positions. The last player back to the starting line<br />
loses a point. Repeat and then rotate positions (players from the middle go to the outside and players from the outside<br />
go to the middle).<br />
Progressions<br />
1. Use the weaker foot only.<br />
2. Introduce a defender to tackle players as they turn back to the middle <strong>of</strong> the area.<br />
Key Coaching Points<br />
1. Get on your toes and ready to react.<br />
2. Sprint from your starting position.<br />
3. Get up to full running speed in five paces.<br />
4. Keep the ball within 2 to 3 feet within touches.<br />
5. Concentrate on good technique through the turn.<br />
