6 vs. 6 Three-Touch Soccer
Purpose
To improve control and decision-making in a game situation
Organization
Set out a 60-by-40-yard area with a goal (5 yards wide) and a goalkeeper on both endlines. Play 5 vs. 5 inside the
area. One ball per practice.
Game Objective
Play a regular scrimmage game. Players must control the ball with two touches and pass the ball to a teammate or
attempt a shot with their third touch. This requirement will encourage players to control the ball quickly and make
good decisions about to whom they should pass the ball.
Progressions
1. Use the weaker foot only.
2. Use only the inside or outside of the foot to control the ball.
3. Progress to one-touch control and second touch pass.
Key Coaching Points
1. Look up to observe your options as the ball is coming towards you.
2. Make your first touch 2 to 3 feet out and feet angled in the direction in which you intend to pass the ball.
3. Call the name of the person you are passing to.
4. Call for the ball and give instructions as to where you want the ball to be played.
