Lumière QuartetWhile Canadian audiences are now familiar withperformance on original instruments, it is still notcommon to hear Beethoven and Mendelssohn withstring instruments and bows appropriate to the era, andwith a grounding in the aesthetic ideals and philosophythat transformed the cultures of Europe in the Age ofEnlightenment—des Lumières. Formed in 2002, theLumière Quartet has chosen to focus on the greatClassical and Early Romantic repertoire. Violinists David Stewart andPaule Préfontaine, violist Stephen Marvin and cellist Christina Mahlerare well known in Canada as proponents of historically informedperformance at the highest level, not primarily as an academic discipline,but rather directed to the purpose of bringing out the full expressiverange of the enduring chamber music from Mozart to Schubert. Les membres du Quatuor Lumière ont joué chacunde leur côté pour des ensembles aussi prestigieux que l’orchestreTafelmusik de Toronto ou l’ensemble Arion de Montréal.Tu MachTu Mach is the mother of Kerson and Stanley Leong.An accomplished pianist and piano teacher, she is alsothe founder and director of Tutti Muzik Inc, a wellknown music school in Ottawa. She has beenperforming in a piano trio with her two sons since theywere very young, and the Tutti Muzik Trio—as they areoften known—has performed with the National ArtsCentre Orchestra under Maestro Boris Brott, as well asin many fundraising and community events. In recognition of herentrepreneurial achievements and contribution to the community, shewas a recipient of the Ottawa Business Journal’s Forty under 40 awardin 2004. She is multi-talented and is also an award-winning fashiondesigner.pianoTu Mach est la mère de Kerson et Stanley Leong. Pianisteet professeure de piano accomplie, elle est égalementla fondatrice et la codirectrice de Tutti Muzik Inc,une école de musique reconnue à Ottawa. Elle joue dupiano dans un trio avec ses deux fils depuis leur plusjeune âge. On les appelle souvent The Tutti Muzik Trioet ils ont joué dans l’Orchestre du Centre national desarts sous la direction de Boris Brott et lors de nombreuxévénements communautaires et de collectes de fonds. Elle possède de nombreux talents et est une dessinatrice de modeprimée.Mariateresa MagisanoMariateresa Magisano is a native of Montreal and is ofItalian descent. Most recently she performed with theArizona Opera in the role of Despina in their newproduction of Mozart’s Così fan tutte. MariateresaMagisano is an active concert soloist, having performedthe world premieres of Imant Raminsh’s What Voices inan Unknown Tongue with the Vancouver Chamber Choir(CBC Records), Linda Nessel’s In Limine with theVancouver Symphony Orchestra and Rupert Lang’s Magnificat with ChorLeoni (Skylark Music); and Brahms: Sonatas and songs (Skylark Music).Mariateresa Magisano is a winner of the Metropolitan Opera NationalCouncil Auditions, as well as a recipient of the Metropolitan Opera EdFund Award. For several years she was sponsored by the JacquelineDesmarais Foundation for Canadian Opera Singers and has completedher training and studies at the Juilliard Opera Center and McGillUniversity.SopranoNée à Montrèal et d’origine italienne, Mariateresa Magisanoa chanté plus récemment avec l’Arizona Operadans le rôle de Despina dans leur nouvelle productionde Cosi fan Tutte de Mozart.
