Dr. Peter SimonDr. Peter Simon has served as President of The RoyalConservatory since 1991. The most recent milestone inDr. Simon’s tenure is the completion of The RoyalConservatory’s national headquarters, the TELUSCentre for Performance and Learning, culminating inthe grand opening of the Koerner Hall in 2009. In 1994,Dr. Simon founded Learning Through the Arts (LTTA),a new division of The Royal Conservatory. He launchedThe Glenn Gould School in 1997. It is now Canada’s leading trainingcentre for highly gifted young musicians. Dr. Simon began his musicaleducation as a student of Boris Berlin. He then went on to study at NewYork’s Juilliard School and in London with Louis Kentner. Dr. Simonreceived a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in 1983 from the Universityof Michigan while working with the legendary pianist and conductorLeon Fleisher.Kenneth SimpsonOttawa native Kenneth Simpson obtained a Bachelorof Music in Performance from the University of Ottawain 1985 under the guidance of Ian Bernard, timpanistof the National Arts Centre Orchestra (NACO).Further study continued over a long period with teacher/ performer Pierre Beluse of McGill University inMontreal. As a student, Kenneth Simpson won theNACO Bursary Award in 1983, as well as the IsobelFirestone Scholarship at the University of Ottawa in 1984. Presently,Kenneth Simpson is engaged as percussionist of the National ArtsCentre Orchestra, Principal Percussion of the Ottawa SymphonyOrchestra and as Professor of Percussion at the University of Ottawa.Through the NAC, Kenneth Simpson is very involved with Music inthe Schools as part of the percussion duo Bangers and Smash and as aclinician. He is also an endorser for Zildjian Cymbals and Vic FirthSticks, both in Boston, Massachusetts.Piotr StanczykPolish-born Piotr Stanczyk trained at the State BalletSchool of Poznan before studying at Canada’s NationalBallet School. He joined The National Ballet of Canadain 1998 and was promoted to principal dancer in 2008.With the National Ballet, Piotr Stanczyk’s repertoireincludes lead roles in The Sleeping Beauty, Don Quixote,Romeo and Juliet, Swan Lake, Onegin, Etudes, The Nutcracker,Theme and Variations, The Four Seasons and Petrouchka. PiotrStanczyk has created several roles for the company, including those ofFelix in James Kudelka’s An Italian Straw Hat and a Hired Escort in Mr.Kudelka’s Cinderella. Piotr Stanczyk danced lead roles in the companypremiere of John Neumeier’s The Seagull, Davide Bombana’s Carmen andJerome Robbins’ West Side Story Suite. For his role as Jaguar in TheFirebird, Piotr Stanczyk was in 2003 the first-ever recipient of theWilliam Marrié Award for Dramatic Excellence, along with First SoloistKeiichi Hirano. He has guested with the Vienna State Opera and theInternational Ballet Festival of Miami.President of The RoyalConservatory / Président duConservatoire royalM. Il a longuement étudié avec le professeur etinterprète reconnu Pierre Beluse de l’Université McGill.Au cours de ses études universitaires, Kenneth Simpsonremporte le prix prestigieux de l’OCNA en 1983 ainsique la bourse Isobel Firestone de l’Université d’Ottawa en 1984.À l’heure actuelle, Kenneth Simpson est percussionniste dans l’Orchestredu Centre national des Arts, premier percussionniste à l’Orchestresymphonique d’Ottawa et professeur de percussion à l’Université d’Ottawa.Par l’entremise du CNA, Kenneth Simpson est très engagé dansle programme Musiciens dans les écoles, comme membre du duo depercussion Bangers and S...mash et comme instructeur. Il y aaussi créé des rôles, notamment dans des productions de James Kudelka,dont Félix dans Un chapeau de paille d’Italie et une escorte dans Cendrillon.Mentionnons enfin des rôles principaux tenus dans la Mouette de JohnNeumeier, dans Carmen de Davide Bombana et dans la Suite tirée de WestSide Story de Jerome Robbins. En 2003, avec le danseur étoile KeiichiHirano, Piotr Stanczyk a remporté le premier Prix William Marrié d’excellencedramatique pour sa prestation dans l’Oiseau de feu.
