Christina MahlerDutch cellist Christina Mahler immigrated to Canada in1981 to serve as principal cellist of the TafelmusikOrchestra, a position she has held ever since. Reviewsoften praise her rich sound, energetic playing andinsightful musicianship. Christina Mahler is increasinglyin demand as soloist and recitalist. She has played andrecorded numerous concertos with Tafelmusik,including works by Boccherini, Haydn, Vivaldi, C.P.E.Bach and Leonardo Leo. Christina Mahler has been a member of theOttawa-based Lumière Quartet since 2006. In addition to teaching atTafelmusik’s annual Baroque Summer Institute and the year-roundAdvanced Certificate of Performance at the University of Toronto,Christina Mahler enjoys giving masterclasses at various universities, aswell as private lessons at home. In her spare time, she is an avid potterand enjoys relaxing in the summers at her cottage in the Kawarthas.Marcelle MalletteAwarded First Prize from the Québec Conservatory ofMusic, Marcelle Mallette pursued her studies withJoseph Gingold at Indiana University where sheobtained her Soloist Diploma. She also participated inseveral masterclasses, notably with Yehudi Menuhin,Joseph Silverstein, and Stefan Georghiu, and hasparticipated in numerous chamber music festivals inCanada, Germany, and New Zealand. Marcelle Mallettewas concertmaster with the Laval Symphony Orchestra, the AucklandPhilharmonia and the Quebec Youth Orchestra, as well as with theGrands Ballets Canadiens Orchestra and the Montreal Opera Orchestra,and assistant concertmaster with the Quebec Symphony Orchestra. Asan acclaimed chamber musician, she has toured the United States andEurope performing with the celebrated Orpheus Chamber Orchestraof New York and as a member of the Quatuor Morency, the QuatuorDe Sève, and the Ottawa String Quartet. She also performs in a duowith pianist Marie Fabi. Since June 2004, she has been associateconcertmaster of the Orchestre Métropolitain du Grand Montréal.Max MandelCanadian violist Max Mandel is one of the mostacclaimed and active chamber musicians of hisgeneration. Comfortable in many styles and genres, MaxMandel’s current group affiliations include the FLUXQuartet, The Caramoor Virtuosi, The Silk RoadEnsemble, The Metropolitan Museum Artists inConcert, The Jupiter Symphony Chamber Players, TheKirby String Quartet, The Smithsonian ChamberPlayers, Class Notes, The Knights, Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra, andI Furiosi Baroque Ensemble. Early formative experiences includedfounding the Metro String Quartet, which helped forge his dedicationto chamber music through collaboration with his colleagues and teacherssuch as Lorand Fenyves at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Torontoand especially the Banff Centre for the Arts. Private studies at theUniversity of Toronto and the Juilliard School were with Steven Dannand Samuel Rhodes. Mr. Mandel plays on a 1973 Giovanni BattistaMorassi generously loaned to him by Lesley Robertson of the St.Lawrence Quartet. Chambriste très sollicitée, elle a parcouru lesÉtats-Unis et l’Europe au sein du célèbre Orpheus Chamber Orchestrade New York.
