Joel QuarringtonJoel Quarrington began formal studies of the doublebass when he was thirteen with Thomas Monohan, aswell as Peter Madgett. Upon gra<strong>du</strong>ation from theUniversity of Toronto, he was awarded the EatonScholarship. Subsequent studies took him to Italy andAustria, where he studied with two bass masters, FrancoPetracchi and Ludwig Streicher. Joel is a winner of theGeneva International Competition, and has made soloappearances in Canada, the United States, Europe and China. He hasplayed concerti with many Canadian orchestras including the NationalArts Centre and the Edmonton, Winnipeg, Hamilton and TorontoSymphonies. For over thirty years Joel has served as the PrincipalDouble Bass of the Canadian Opera Company, the Toronto SymphonyOrchestra and the National Arts Centre Orchestra. Joel Quarringtonteaches at Montreal’s McGill University and in the summers at theOrford Arts Centre (Quebec), where his master classes have attractedplayers from around the world.Kevin ReevesKevin Reeves is honoured to be new Associate Directorof the Ottawa Choral Society. He is also director of theOttawa Regional Youth Choir and founding director ofOttawa’s premiere chamber choir, Seventeen Voyces. Hehas led that choir on national radio and television, andwas one of three con<strong>du</strong>ctors for CBC television’s EasterSunrise in 2003. He has also prepared choirs forrenowned con<strong>du</strong>ctors, including Trevor Pinnock, FranzPaul Decker, Lydia Adams, Jiri Belohlavek, Iwan Edwards, RobertCooper, Jean-François Rivest and Pinchas Zukerman. He has sung andtoured as a tenor soloist and chorister with the Notre Dame CathedralChoir, the Anglican Chorale, La Chapelle of Quebec City, the WinnipegSingers, the Tallis Choir and St. Simon’s Choir of Toronto, the CantataSingers of Ottawa, and St. Matthew’s Choir. Kevin Reeves is Presidentof Zephyrus Pro<strong>du</strong>ctions Ltd., which has won numerous awards for itstelevision drama and documentaries. He is also a published author andcaricaturist of note.Ed ReifelSince he embarked on his career as a percussionist, EdReifel has worked extensively with some of the finestgroups in Canada as both a chamber and an orchestralmusician. Ed Reifel has worked regularly with TheToronto Symphony Orchestra, Tafelmusik BaroqueOrchestra (including Opera Atelier), and The NationalBallet of Canada Orchestra. Most recently he workedwith the Canadian Opera Company for the pro<strong>du</strong>ctionof Death In Venice by Benjamin Britten. He recently played as timpanisoloist, along with Russell Hartenberger of Nexus, in the Canadianpremiere of Concerto Fantasy for Two Timpanists and Orchestra by PhilipGlass, which was con<strong>du</strong>cted by David Briskin of the National Ballet ofCanada Orchestra. Ed Reifel has performed and recorded with FinalFantasy / Owen Pallet, John Samson (The Weakerthans) and ChristineFellows, the latter two with whom he has formed The Correction LineEnsemble, who recently toured and has recorded for CBC. Plus récemment,il a participé à la pro<strong>du</strong>ction de Mort à Venise deBenjamin Britten avec la Compagnie d’opéra canadienne.Avec Russell Hartenberger de l’ensemble Nexus, il était timbalesolo lors de la première canadienne de la Fantaisie concertante pour deuxtimbales et orchestre de Philip Glass avec l’Orchestre <strong>du</strong> Ballet national <strong>du</strong>Canada dirigé par David Briskin. Ed Reifel a aussi joué et enregistré avecFinal Fantasy / Owen Pallet. De plus, il a formé avec John Samson (<strong>du</strong>groupe manitobain The Weakerthans) et Christine Fellows le CorrectionLine Ensemble, avec lequel il a effectué une tournée et enregistré pourla radio de CBC / Radio-Canada.
