The village thenbecomes a vast creative playground, and its inhabitants join in, sincethey too are involved in the creativeprocesses. In 2003, the year thefestival came into being, the resultwas an exhibition at the Modernand Contemporary Art museumin Nice, where the “Peus”, or theworks of art thus created, could beviewed. It was the artist Jean Mas, amember of the Ecole de Nice group, who founded the festival. It will takeplace between 10th and 19th July.Patrick Moya, Stéphane Cipre andSandra D. Lecoq are involved in thishigh level cultural project, which hasbecome a summer event that’s notto be missed.CITY LIGHTSNice, this reservoir of shapes andcolours that’s open to the sky, offersin the wake of its trams a wholeconstellation of works of art thataccompany them as they wind theirway through the various streetsand areas of the city. Selected by ajury of experts, a learned assemblyof leading artists is to be foundin this movement for aestheticpublic transport. Among them areAngel Leccia and his Solar Discat the Comte de Falicon stop, andJean-Michel Othoniel and his glassbead urban furniture in SquareDoyen Lépine. The highlight ofthis musical score is to be foundon Place Masséna, in the formof seven sculptures levitated onhigh steel stems: Conversationin Nice, by Jaume Plensa. Whendarkness comes, each one of themreflects changing colours through aluminous prism. Nice is not about tostop deploying in its public areas apalette of works that are as heartwarmingas they are eclectic, andinclude the arch by Bernar Venet inthe Albert 1er garden, the Modernand Contemporary Art museum’sfront square with its gleaming Nikide Saint Phalle fountain, and SachaSosno’s “Square Head”.
