Where the Aquilone wind blows
Montaquila is made up of Montaquila centre,
Masserie La Corte and Roccaravindola. According
to some studiouses, it was the ancient Aquilonia of
Samnites. Probabily, in this village, Samnites lost
their indipendence due to Roman people. Belonged
to the Roman age is also an ancient “Taverna”
along the old Roman road. To the V century dates
S. Maria dell’Assunta Church, while in the VIII
century Montaquila belonged to the S. Vincenzo al
Volturno Abbey. Montaquila inhabitants, about the
X century, settled on the hill where it lies today.
Especially along S.S. 158 you can see many
commercial activities.
The silent fortress
In Roccaravindola Alta there are ruins of a Dark
Middle Age fortress; in Roccaravindola Bassa there
is a medioeval little Church devoted to S. Michele
Arcangelo, where there is a Roman bas-relief. Local
“Rinascita Ravindolese Association” organizes here
the suggestive N’coppa alla Rocca manifestation.
