Pizzone is the heart of
the Abruzzo, Lazio and
Molise National Park
(ALMNP). Its origin is
joined to the
settlements after the X
century by S. Vincenzo
al Volturno Abbots,
even if its land was
part of Scapoli
castrum. It was feud
of S. Vincenzo Abbey
and then of della
Leonessa and Cestari
families.
Close to Mainarde
Mountains, it is part of
ALMNP from 1929 but
only in the last times
the Museum and the
Bear Faunistic Area,
with a specific
Mainarde Project,
represent the first
effectively form of naturalistic
tourism. The
ancient village,
which is
around
the San
Nicola
Church, is
very well
preserved.
