The
is the
Expoarroz paves the
way for Brazilian
rice to conquer new
markets at home
and abroad
Scheduled to hold its second edition
on May 10 – 13, in Pelotas (RS),
Expoarroz – International Rice Exhibition
has turned into a reference for the production
chain regarding the chance to
open and consolidate new markets. One
of the pillars of the event, which has received
much attention and interest from
exhibitors and participants, is exports.
“Our objective is to pave the way for our
rice in the domestic and international
market, and give access to technology”,
explains Fernando Estima, of Continental
Mercantile Exchange and Ei-log Export,
Import and Logistics, company that promotes
the event.
The fair will have a variety of programs
geared toward rice trading, machinery,
industry and farm equipment, inputs
and services, along with the 250 display
stands of companies from all the segments
of the production chain. Expoarroz
provides for an exclusive atmosphere of
businesses with selected participants,
like the guests invited by the exhibitors,
coordination and restrict access. There
will be simultaneous events on product
development and technologies, and the
Inor Ag. Assmann
launching of inputs, in addition to alternative
national rice transport systems
and sectorial meetings.
The participants will have the chance
to check first hand the Brazilian Rice
Yearbook 2011, to be launched by Editora
Gazeta Santa Cruz during the event.
Among the other activities, one of the
highlights is the International Business
Round, promoted by the Brazilian Trade
and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex
Brasil), and by the Brazilian Association
of Rice Industries (Abiarroz) focused on
foreign business missions, which promote
our national rice for potential international
buyers. The business rounds
will be attended by major global clients,
either at the invitation of companies
and Apex, or encouraged by publicity
initiatives conducted by the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs, which widely publicized
the fair through its embassies in upwards
of 40 rice importing countries.
The novelty in this issue is the Rice
Brazil stand, devoted to companies willing
to display their products, with the
aim to create an identity for our national
rice. This format might become a model
INTERNATIONAL
BUSINESS ROUND
IS ONE OF THE
HIGHLIGHTS
for international fairs that display our
rice. “The conclusion is that we have a
high level, with production volumes on
the rise and there is a need to direct it
towards the national market with more
efficiency and to the international market,
in bigger volumes and added value”,
Estima argues.
The program also provides for a relevant
debate on the challenges of the
rice logistics in Brazil, a course on international
credit letters, given by Banco
do Brasil, and a second one, by technicians
from the Ministry of Agriculture,
Livestock and Food Supply (Mapa) to
demonstrate that it is possible to export
to several small and medium companies
which consider themselves a long way
from this objective. At international
level, the meeting of the Mercosur
Confederation of Rice Mills (Conmasur)
and the meeting of the Latin American
Fund for Irrigated Rice (Flar, in the
Spanish acronym), which comprises 15
countries in South and Central America
and the Caribbean. For more information,
