market, compared to 29.7 million in<br />
2009. In <strong>2011</strong>, no significant changes<br />
are predicted, and international sales<br />
are reckoned to reach 31.4 million<br />
tons, <strong>do</strong>wn 0.3%. “The exportable capacity<br />
of the major global exporters<br />
is big enough to meet a reasonable<br />
stable global demand”, says Villar.<br />
According to figures released by<br />
FAO, global stocks in late 2010 had<br />
risen to 130 million tons, compared<br />
to 125 million in 2009. The Cirad<br />
analyst maintains that this volume<br />
represents 29% of the global needs.<br />
“In <strong>2011</strong>, the global stocks are likely<br />
to soar again to 137 million tons, a<br />
value that could be narrowed <strong>do</strong>wn<br />
due to possible soaring global consumption”,<br />
he comments.<br />
