Koundi and the National Thursday
Durch Holzhandel ist das kleine Dorf Koundi in Kamerun reich geworden.
Doch die Angst den Anschluss an die globalisierte Wirtschaft zu versäumen
ist groß und auf Holz alleine kein Verlass. Deshalb beginnen die 1200 Einwohner
Koundis für das Wohl aller eine gemeinsame Kakaoplantage anzulegen.
_ Regisseurin Ariane Astrid Atodji zeigt das Leben der Einwohner im
Stile einer ethnologischen Beobachtung: direkt, unkommentiert, mit sicherem
Gespür für präzise Kameraführung und Montage. Zwischen Archaik und
Moderne ist KOUNDI ein unaufdringlicher Blick in das soziale Gefüge eines
afrikanischen Dorfes – mal skurril, mal tragikomisch, mal harter Alltag. ml
The small village of Koundi in Cameroon has grown rich from the
timber trade. Even so the villagers fear losing their connection to the globalised
economy and do not want to rely on wood alone. Therefore Koundi’s
1200 inhabitants begin to establish a communal cocoa plantation for the
good of the village as a whole. _ The director Ariane Astrid Atodji shows us
daily life in Koundi through an ethnological observational approach: direct,
without commentary and displaying a confident flair for precise camera
work and montage. Between the archaic and the modern KOUNDI provides
an unobtrusive insight into the social structures of an African village – at
times whimsical, at times tragicomic and at times simply documenting the
tough daily grind. ml
Regie ARIANE ASTRID ATODJI – Nguelemendouga, Kamerun, 1980. Bachelor
in Theaterwissenschaft an der Universität von yaoundé. Teilnahme an einem
Filmworkshop des Goethe-Instituts. Seit 2008 ist sie an der Filmschule von
yaoundé. 2009 war sie zum Durban Talent Campus eingeladen. Filme (Auswahl)
