Main Press Centre<br />

As provided for by the Master Plan<br />

for the Development of Moscow, a<br />

large building for the Novosti Press<br />

Agency (APN) and offices of the USSR<br />

Union of Journalists was completed<br />

on Zubovski Boulevard by the time<br />

when the Games started. It housed the<br />

Main Press Centre of the Olympic<br />

Games. Up to 3,000 accredited media<br />

representatives could work there at<br />

one time.<br />

The location of the Main Press<br />

Centre at an intersection of Sadovoye<br />

Ring and Komsomol Avenue, near<br />

Park Kultury Metro Station ensured<br />

good transport connections with the<br />

hotels where the media were<br />

accommodated and with the venues.<br />

The six-storey building of the<br />

Main Press Centre includes three<br />

communicating inner yards, each with<br />

a separate exit on to Sadovoye Ring.<br />

Separate entrances from the yards<br />

lead to different sections of the<br />

building.<br />

The architecture of the building<br />

was designed to match surrounding<br />

modern constructions and the<br />

architectural monument Military<br />

Depots located nearby. The skeleton<br />

of the building was assembled from<br />

precast ferro-concrete units and its<br />
