rooms, methodological centres, a<br />

registration room and administration<br />

offices, VIP lounges, press conference<br />

rooms, a press subcentre equipped<br />

with teleprinters and a telephone<br />

call office, and utility and technical<br />

rooms.<br />

The pool building was erected on a<br />

piled foundation. The framework of<br />

the main hall is made of steel largespan<br />

components. The roof consists<br />

basically of two double-hinged arches,<br />

inclined one against the other, with a<br />

span of 120 metres. They support a<br />

suspended saddle-shaped roof system.<br />

The inclined arches rest on four high<br />

supporting pillars of cast-in-situ reinforced<br />

concrete based on the piled<br />

foundation.<br />

The suspended roof consists of<br />

steel guy trusses with a maximum<br />

span of 108 metres, covered with<br />

shaped continuous steel sheet. An<br />

efficient multilayer heat insulation and<br />

a waterproof carpet were placed on<br />

top.<br />

After the Games of the XXII Olympiad,<br />

the swimming pool is being used<br />

for swimming competitions, diving<br />

and water-polo events, as well as for<br />

training and general fitness programmes.<br />

A swimming school for children<br />

of the Trudovye Reservy Sports Society<br />

is functioning there, too.<br />

The President of the International<br />

Amateur Swimming Federation, Javier<br />

Ostos, praised the new Olympic pool.<br />

He said, "The results achieved in the<br />

Olympic pool were high.... I think that<br />

this wonderful pool contributed a lot<br />

to a high results achieved."<br />
