Broadcasting<br />

To broadcast the 1980 Olympics the<br />

following number of international channels<br />

was established: 21 television<br />

channels, 100 audio commentator, and<br />

100 radio channels.<br />

The television channels included 8<br />

channels in the Intersputnik satellitecommunication<br />

system, 7 channels in<br />

the Intelsat satellite-communication<br />

system, and 6 channels in the cable<br />

and relay lines.<br />

Television and radio signals were<br />

routed to the OSC from all the Olympic<br />

venues. 59 basic r. f. channels<br />

were derived to carry the signals from<br />

competition sites, the Main Press<br />

Centre, and the Olympic Village in<br />

Moscow. Each basic r. f. channel in-<br />

cluded one vision and four audio top<br />

class channels. In addition, television<br />

and radio signals were routed to the<br />

OSC from Tallinn, Leningrad, Kiev,<br />

and Minsk along trunk lines. To televise<br />

the Olympic Torch Relay, appropriate<br />

television and radio signals were<br />

transmitted to the OSC in Moscow<br />

from certain points passed by the<br />

Torch. The signals were transmitted<br />

from the OSC to the OTVRC to be<br />

used in the production of programmes.<br />

Ready programmes were<br />

transmitted back to the OSC to be<br />

routed to all the continents. Vision and<br />

sound were constantly monitored in<br />

special quality-control rooms of the<br />

OTVRC and OSC.<br />
