AUDIT OF <strong>RECORDS</strong><br />
5000. PERIODIC AUDITS OF <strong>INDIVIDUAL</strong> COMPUTER AND SERVICE<br />
<strong>RECORDS</strong><br />
1. Requirements. Audit the records of all Marines periodically<br />
per the instructions in this chapter.<br />
2. Purpose. To ensure records of personnel are accurate,<br />
complete, current, and in consonance with information maintained<br />
in the MCTFS data bases.<br />
3. Responsibility. The reporting unit commander is directly<br />
responsible for timely and effective accomplishment of the audits<br />
required by this chapter and <strong>MCO</strong> P1080.40, MCTFSPRIM. Toward<br />
this end, the reporting unit commander shall designate an<br />
officer, SNCO, responsible LCpl or above, or civilian employee<br />
GS-04 and above in writing, to assist Marines in verifying that<br />
information recorded in various records is compatible and<br />
correct. In addition, the reporting unit commander shall ensure<br />
that:<br />
a. Corrective action is taken regarding all discrepancies.<br />
b. Unit diary information which requires the transfer of<br />
data to the service record is accomplished in a timely manner.<br />
During audits, screen the document side of the service record to<br />
ensure removal of extraneous papers.<br />
4. Scope<br />
a. For Marines on active duty or in the SMCR, conduct the<br />
audit in the presence of the individual. This audit will include<br />
inspection and the corrective action necessary to ensure<br />
accuracy, currency, and completeness of the below-listed items:<br />
(1) SRB/OQR (to include RED)<br />
(2) BIR/BTR<br />
(3) LES<br />
(4) Health Records<br />
(5) Other local records containing personnel information.<br />
