combat area. When an activity is designated, use existing<br />

procedures to get the service record to the organization to which<br />

the Marine is joined.<br />

b. Overseas activities will transfer evacuees by service<br />

record to the appropriate casualty administrator as set forth in<br />

the current directive that designates clearing agencies and<br />

casualty administrators. Cite authority for transfer in each case.<br />

c. The casualty organization which first receives the service<br />

record of an unlocated evacuee will try to locate the Marine and<br />

forward the service record to the parent organization. If the<br />

Marine has not been located after 30 days following transfer from<br />

the combat unit, transfer the Marine by service record to the<br />

designated clearing agency. In those instances where the casualty<br />

administrator and the clearing agency are the same activity, the<br />

joining and transferring of Marines at the end of the 30 day period<br />

will not apply.<br />

d. When the clearing agency receives the service record, it<br />

will start action to locate the Marine. If the Marine is not found<br />

within 30 days, the clearing agency will hold the service record<br />

and ask for locator service from the CMC (MMSB-10). When the<br />

Marine is located, forward the service record to that organization.<br />

e. Commanders in CONUS will use the designated clearing agency<br />

to locate service records of evacuees with the casualty<br />

administrator listed as an information addressee. Include in the<br />

request, the itinerary given by the Marine or taken from any<br />

service records which are available. Place a copy of the request<br />

in the Marine's temporary service record. If the clearing agency<br />

does not locate the service record within 30 days, it will endorse<br />

and return the request with any information that may assist the<br />

commander concerned.<br />

f. If a request for service records has been sent to a<br />

clearing agency and the service record is received from some other<br />

organization, notify the clearing agency and cancel the request.<br />

The clearing agency will in turn notify, by message, any other<br />

organization to which the request may have been forwarded.<br />

g. When a request is returned indicating that the clearing<br />

agency cannot locate the original service record, the commander of<br />

the organization to which the Marine is joined will request a<br />
