Programming through intercollegiate athletics maintains the mission of NCAA Division III intercollegiate athletics. Open try-outs are held for all students that meet the eligibility requirements set forth by both Keuka College and the NCAA. Student feedback is obtained from the intramural advisory board, the health and fitness club, the lifeguard staff and the club sport coaches to help generate new ideas and inform decisions for improvement. Surveys are also used to gauge student satisfaction (Appendix 5.28 Intramural Student Survey Supporting Doc and Student Interest Survey Doc). The surveys for intramurals are conducted yearly, and the results are used to develop and update the campus recreation strategic plan (Appendix 5.29 Campus Recreation Strategic Plan). Campus Safety – Campus Safety provides 24-hour security guard coverage for the College. Keuka College Security Officers are New York State certified and receive annual in-service training. They routinely patrol the campus and are responsible for securing buildings and conducting fire safety checks in residence halls and College buildings. In collaboration with the Student Affairs staff, the officers enforce the Student Conduct Code in addition to all NY State and Federal Laws. During the 2010-11 academic year, a Student Safety Advisory Board (SSAB) was instituted in order to help Campus Safety identify areas of concern among students regarding safety issues, and develop plans to address those concerns. The SSAB is comprised of the Director of Campus Safety, the Dean of Students, a student representative from the Student Senate, and other students. The College annually reports campus crime statistics to the Federal government through the Clergy Report. Spiritual Life – The Center for Spiritual Life (CSL) provides worship opportunities, service opportunities, counseling/support group opportunities, leadership opportunities, and spiritual interest groups and clubs. CSL activities are often ecumenical in nature, and the Chaplain provides programming for a broad spectrum of spiritual and religious interests. Information regarding spiritual life can be found on the College’s website at http://life.keuka.edu/campusministries/ . The effectiveness of the CSL activities is measured through tracking attendance, through student response and using a self-created tool that assesses use of: Student Affairs Mission Statement Values, “Challenges” designed to move students to action, “Teaching” areas designed to stimulate critical thinking, Programming Categories of the Center for Spiritual Life office and HERI (Higher Education Research Institute) measures of spirituality. Some programs are planned to meet as many “values” as possible. Other programs are planned to achieve depth in a couple of values. Programs with stable and/or increased attendance and measurable effectiveness are worth continuing to resource.
