and clothing on equitable terms. No soul shall<br />
have burden laid on it greater than it can bear.<br />
No mother shall be treated unfairly on account <strong>of</strong><br />
bar child, nor father on account <strong>of</strong> his child;<br />
an heir shall be chargeable in the same way if they<br />
both decide on weaning, by mutual consent, and after<br />
due consultation, there is no blame on them. if you<br />
decide on a foster mother for yourr <strong>of</strong>fspring there<br />
is no blame - on you, provided ye pay (the mother)<br />
what ye <strong>of</strong>fered on equitable terms. " 1<br />
Allowing her the alternative <strong>of</strong> a foster mother shows understanding and<br />
practicality.<br />
The father is forbidden to take away the child from his divorced<br />
qife if she chooses to look after the infant and nurse herself, in<br />
order to safeguard him against any emotional distrubances.<br />
Women in Islam have full freedom to remarry whenever they choose<br />
after the end <strong>of</strong> the legally prescribed period<br />
(J. dda). The husband<br />
has the choice to revise his decision during this period, or to leave<br />
her to marry whoever she wants; but he is totally forbidden from<br />
harming her or refusing her the right to marry another man. (Q. 2.232).<br />
as was the case in the Jahilliyah.<br />
Islam is not against re-uniting <strong>of</strong> wife and husband. The husband<br />
has the option to return during the legally prescribed period or<br />
afterwards as mentioned above, but on condition that his association<br />
is for the good and that he provides his wife with a happy future,<br />
However, if his sole motive in wanting her back is to prevent her<br />
from marrying another man, this is clearly an act <strong>of</strong> injustice and as<br />
such is forbidden by Islam. She has the right to -'return to his<br />
father's house and to live there as one <strong>of</strong> the family as if she had<br />
