Ibn Kathir, in his interpretation <strong>of</strong> this verse pointed out that<br />

Al Ay. Xim (the singular form <strong>of</strong><br />
il-? Ayamý) is the man who ha's -no wife<br />
or the woman who has no husband. He also explained that the verb<br />
'marry' in this verse is imperative i. e. an order to get married,<br />
and some Islamic scholars are <strong>of</strong> the opinion that marriage is<br />
compulsory for every Muslim who can afford it.<br />
emphasises that as<br />

"They (your wives) are your garments, and ye are<br />
their garments. " 2<br />
Yousuf Ali explained this verse that "Men and women are each<br />
other's garments. i. e. they are for mutual support, mutual comfort<br />
and mutual protection, fitting into each other as a garment fits,.<br />
the body".<br />
3 The, Qurlan also says:<br />
"And among His signs is this, that He created for you<br />
mates from among yourselves, that ye may dwell in<br />
tranquility with them. and He has put love and mercy<br />
between you (hearts). " 4<br />
The Qurlan is awakening the desire for marriage which is recommended<br />
in this statement:<br />
In the Sunnah<br />
"Marry women <strong>of</strong> your choiCe. 11<br />
, the Prophet stressed the importance <strong>of</strong> marriage.<br />
As'Abdullah narrated : We were with the Prophet while we were young<br />
and had no wealth whatever. So, Allah's apostle said. 110 young peoplel<br />
Whoever among you can marry, should marry, because It helps him lower<br />
his-gaze and guards his modesty (i. e. his private parts from committing<br />
illegal sexual intercourse etc. ) and whoever is not able to marry.<br />
should fast. so fasting diminishes his sexual power.<br />
