Asking for Something in a Shop
When we are asking for something in a shop, we say:
The reply will be either:
A: [ noun ] 있어요? Do you have any [ noun ]?
B: 네, 있어요.
or
B: 아니요, 없어요.
Yes, we do.
No, we don’t.
Examples:
(1) A: 포도 있어요? Do you have any grapes?
B: 네, 있어요. Yes, we do.
(2) A: 인삼차 있어요? Do you have ginseng tea?
B: 아니요, 없어요 No, we don’t.
(3) A: 질문 있어요? Do you have a question?
B: 아니요, 없어요. No, I don’t.
(4) A: 오늘 시간 있어요? Do you have (some free) time today?
B: 왜요? Why?
(5) A: 남자 친구 있어요? Do you have a boyfriend?
B: 아니요, 없어요. No, I don’t.
You can see from the latter examples that this phrase has a wide application -
not just asking for things in shops.
