아니에요 ‘am/are/is not’<br />

1) +이에요/예요 (am/are/is)<br />

UNIT 9 얼마예요?<br />

In unit 1 you have learn<strong>ed</strong> +이에요/예요 to say ‘A is B’ when B is a noun and<br />

not an adjective. Remember that this ending must be add<strong>ed</strong> to the end of a<br />

noun, pronoun or wh-question word.<br />

Rules:<br />

Noun+(이)야 (Casual)<br />

Noun+이에요/예요 (Polite)<br />

Noun+(이)세요 (Honorific)<br />

Noun+입니다 (Polite, formal)<br />

Noun+(이)십니다 (Honorific, formal)<br />

If the noun ends in a vowel: +예요<br />

그거 뭐예요? What is that?<br />

If it ends in a consonant: +이에요<br />

2) 아니에요<br />

여자 친구 사진이에요. It’s a photo of <strong>my</strong> girlfriend.<br />

If you want to say that ‘A is not B’, then you use 아니에요.<br />
