+(으)ㄹ래요 ‘I want to…’; ‘I will…’<br />

When we express a desire to do something, we can use:<br />

UNIT 8 비빔밥 하나 주세요<br />

Verb Stem +ㄹ래/을래 (Casual)<br />

Verb Stem +ㄹ래요/을래요 (Polite)<br />

When ascertaining another’s desire do something or not, we can use:<br />

Verb Stem +ㄹ래?/을래? (Casual)<br />

Verb Stem +ㄹ래요?/을래요? (Polite)<br />

Verb Stem +실래요?/으실래요? (Very Polite)<br />

When using this pattern, the sentence subject must be ‘I’, ‘we’ or ‘you’ and<br />

cannot be ‘she’, ‘he’, or ‘they’.<br />

1) Casual and polite forms<br />

If the verb stem ends in a vowel: +ㄹ래(요)<br />

마시 + ㄹ래(요) 마실래(요) will drink<br />

기다리 + ㄹ래(요) 기다릴래(요) will wait<br />

If it ends in a consonant (except for ㄹ): +을래(요)<br />

먹 + 을래(요) 먹을래(요) will eat<br />

듣* + 을래(요) 들을래(요) will listen to<br />

2) Very polite form<br />

If the verb stem ends in a vowel: +실래요?<br />

마시 + ㄹ래요?* 드실래요? (드시+ㄹ래요?)<br />

기다리 + 실래요? 기다리실래요?
